Determine how many people you will invite to your party and the budget. Choose the location of the party and how to provide food. You should send invitations out at least 10 days before your special event to give guests time to make arrangements. If you want to have food catered, then you will need to make arrangements at least two weeks ahead of time. You can also rent items such as tables, chairs and tents. Plan the table layout and decorations at least one week before the occasion. Plan to open space in your refrigerator if the occasion is held at your home.

Table napkins can dress up your dining room for any occasion. If you are having many guests, you should definitely look into buying white napkins wholesale. Table napkins can be folded in a variety of styles and designs to match the celebration. Linens also play an important role in prepping the dining room for special occasions.

The day before the party you should start chilling drinks and prepare the food. Make sure the house is cleaned thoroughly the day before since you will be busy with party preparations on the special day. Prepare the furniture for the party, lay out the food on the dining room table with napkins and silverware.

Young children's birthday parties should be held early in the day to allow for afternoon nap time. Make sure the party does not last longer than two hours to keep children entertained. Young children do not have the energy required to stay at a party for over two hours. Fill themed cups and buckets with candy and gift items. Bingo and Pin the Tail on the Donkey are a childhood favorite at birthday parties. Thank you cards should be sent out after the party within a few days.

Party planning is easy as long as you make a list and prepare in advance. Order or make more food than you intend to need to avoid running out on the big day. No matter what kind of special occasion you are holding, it will go smoothly with preparation weeks in advance.
